Without timely information and continuing support, post-conviction claims of innocence and exonerations can unintentionally re-victimize and re-traumatize victims and survivors of violent crime, as well as alienate them from future participation in the criminal legal system. Victim-centered, trauma-informed post-conviction policies and practices can help victims and survivors navigate the complex conviction review and exoneration process. They can also help streamline the workload and reduce the toll that victim and survivor notification and support can take on agencies and professionals by better preparing staff and distributing the work, ultimately leading to better outcomes for all.
Healing Justice provides technical assistance programs, in partnership with local organizations, government agencies, and others, to help agencies and professionals expand post-conviction victim services and protect victims’ rights.
These programs include specialized training, the development of customized tools and resources, recommendations on individual cases, assistance with supporting crime victims and survivors and more. Healing Justice has assisted thousands of practitioners and service providers and touched the lives of many through our specialized TTA work.
