For Crime Victims & Survivors, Exonerated Individuals, and their Families
Healing Justice’s restorative justice program is designed specifically to address the unique harms that crime victims and survivors and exonerated individuals have experienced in cases involving wrongful convictions and exonerations. This unique program can address the repair that is needed by all harmed in these cases.
Participants are invited to attend a restorative justice session with others who have been directly impacted by the same case. As participants engage in a restorative session, they can address their personal harm and increase their understanding and empathy for others.
Participants will meet with a trained facilitator to learn more about the program, ask questions, and identify key goals for participation. After a thorough preparation, participants will engage in a restorative session with others from the same case to share about their experience and explore both the individual and collective harm. Ongoing support is provided by trained staff and victim advocates.
It starts with the experience of the person who was harmed by the original crime and seeks to address their needs.
Participants can share their experiences, ask questions, and increase their understanding in a safe environment.
Participants have the opportunity to share their truth and have their voices validated and heard by others in the process.
This process creates opportunities for participants to work together to foster individual and collective healing.
