Our Programs

Research confirms that wrongful convictions cause immense trauma and loss to the innocent individuals wrongly convicted and imprisoned. However, crime victims and survivors also suffer deeply, from reliving the trauma associated with the original crime to experiencing new trauma upon discovering a mistake may have been made and the actual assailant never apprehended. The families are also harmed, and their lives are permanently affected both emotionally and financially. These experiences result in a profound sense of neglect by the justice system and deep personal trauma and loss. The ripple effects of these experiences affect everyone involved in the case and reach deep into the community and linger across generations. Healing Justice was created specifically to address these concentric circles of harm.

Our programs are focused on Restorative Justice and Justice Reform and aim to foster both individual and collective healing. Individual healing occurs through being heard, acknowledged, and supported by others with shared or similar experiences. Collective healing occurs from an expanded awareness of diverse experiences, the creation of empathic solidarity, and opportunities to participate in reforming our justice system.
